Psychologist Irving B. Weiner claims that one's response to the fourth of the Rorschach inkblot test cards may indicate attitudes toward men and authority, since the figure is perceived as threatening and domineering while being almost invariably classified as male rather than female. The piece enlarges the figure to dimensions that may be physically threatening to the viewer, and is hung above eye level, testing the limits of the card's credibility. This creates a role reversal between the viewer and the card, as it is no longer the card that interrogates the subject, but the card itself becomes an object of study.
